DAY 1: Lyon - MARTIGUES (1) - THE MEDITERRANEAN
Meeting at 1:30 p.m. in Lyon in front of the "Brasserie Georges" (address: 30 Cours de Verdun, near the Lyon Perrache train station). Transfer by coach for Martigues. Boarding around 6:00 p.m., presentation of the crew and welcome drink. Dinner. Thematic guided tour on art and cinema, where you'll discover the sites that inspired Dufy, Picabia, Derain and other filmmakers who made Martigues their film location. Overnight.
DAY 2: PORT-SAINT-LOUIS - ARLES - AVIGNON (THE CITY OF POPES) - THE CAMARGUE
Full board on board. Departure in the night for Port-Saint-Louis, via the Fos Canal that runs alongside the Mediterranean. Excursion to visit the Camargue. Area where the sea, wetlands and ponds are inhabited by an extraordinary variety of bird life. Free time to visit the village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Return on board in Arles. Guided visit "in the footsteps of Van Gogh". You'll discover some of the places he painted. Cruise to Avignon, arriving in the evening. As we cruise, you'll discover the fortresses of Beaucaire and Tarascon. Overnight.
DAY 3: AVIGNON - VIVIERS
Full board on board. Thematic tour of Avignon "The table of the Popes". A guest speaker will tell you about the daily life and gastronomical delights enjoyed by the Pope. You'll learn all about the organization around "hosting the Pope" and providing fine dining. Cruise to Viviers. Guided walking tour of Viviers: medieval town which has been an episcopal see since the 5th century. Overnight.
DAY 4: VIVIERS - LA VOULTE - TAIN L'HERMITAGE - The Ardeche gorges & the Côtes du Rhône
Full board on board. Excursion to visit the Ardèche Gorges, to reach Vallon Pont d'Arc. Here, the Ardèche has hewn through the cliff to construct a grandiose natural arch, the Pont d'Arc, 54m (177 feet) high. Stop off in St Remèze to visit the lavender museum; Return on board at La Voulte and head on to Tain l'Hermitage. Visit to a wine cellar and a wine tasting. Overnight.
DAY 5: TAIN L'HERMITAGE - VIENNE - LYON
Full board on board. Cruise to Vienne and thematic guided tour of Vienne on foot, “Vienne the Beautiful, the Roman Times”. Departure around 11:00 a.m.for Lyon, which is admirably situated at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône. Thematic guided tour, “Lyon in the steps of the Canuts (Silk Workers).” In the Croix-Rousse neighborhood, you'll explore the silk workers' quarter and the traboules. Departure at nightfall, heading up the Saône River, and you'll enjoy watching the old neighborhoods of Lyon as we cruise by.
DAY 6: TOURNUS - CHALON-SUR-SAONE - BURGUNDY AND THE BEAUJOLAIS
Full board on board. Cruise to Tournus, on the Saône where you'll see the Beaujolais and Mâconnais vineyards. Visit of the Saint Philibert Abbey, a masterpiece of Roman art, and visit of the Hôtel Dieu that dates from the 17th century, where you'll see one of the richest and oldest hospital pharmacies conserved on site in France (closed on Tuesdays). Continuation with the beautiful medieval village of Brancion, one of the largest fortified sites of southern Burgundy. Return on board in Chalon-sur-Saône. Gala evening. Overnight.
DAY 7: CHALON-SUR-SAONE - BURGUNDY - Lyon
Buffet breakfast on board. Disembark in Chalon sur Saône. Transfer by coach to Lyon, arriving in front of the “Brasserie Georges” late in the morning.
