Beer : Belgium's Liquid Gold

Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6:00 p.m. in Brussels. After comfortably settling into your cabins, join us for a welcome brew to meet the crew and get some information about your cruise. Dinner will be served. We’ll remain in port overnight.

We’ll leave by coach for a tour of Brussels and the Maison des Brasseurs. Located in the city center, the building dates back to 1698 and is directly linked to the rise of Belgian beer brewing. The cellar houses a museum wholly dedicated to beer. We’ll enjoy a tasting or two and then return on board. Our ship will begin to cruise. This afternoon, we'll leave by coach for the Het Anker Brewery in Mechelen. We’ll enjoy a tour and a tasting. This brewery is known worldwide for its Gouden Carolus variety of beers. In 1990, the fifth generation of the Van Breedam family took over the brewery and modernized the brew equipment. We’ll then visit the family-owned Duvel Moortgat brewery in Breendonk which was founded in 1871. It is one of the most modern beer brewing factories in Belgium. We’ll return on board for dinner in Antwerp. This evening, take a tour of Antwerp with your host/hostess. Afterwards, we'll begin to cruise to Ghent.

We’ll leave by coach for the Dilewyns Brewery, created in 1999. We’ll then visit the Malheur Brewery. The blonde Malheur beers are brewed according to tradition, with barley, hops and yeast, but hyper-modern equipment is now used in the process. The brown Malheur beers are brewed according to an old Flemish tradition with hops and spice. Come have a taste with us! We'll return on board in Lovendegem. This afternoon, join us for a tour of the Huyghe Brewery in Melle, where the famous Delirium Tremens is made. This beer is set apart by the three different yeasts used, and its colorful label depicting the different phases of production of the beer contribute to its success. We’ll then take a tour of downtown Ghent, including the cathedral and its belfry and Gravensteen (exteriors only). We'll return on board in Bruges. Join us for a presentation on Belgian beer production.

After breakfast, we’ll head to the center of Bruges. Retaining the mysteries of the Middle Ages and unashamedly fairytale-like, Bruges has been an international metropolis for centuries. We’ll have a tasting of the Bourgogne des Flandres, brewed using unique, age-old techniques. The beer ages for several months in wooden barrels in order for the dark liquid to attain its particular taste and creamy head. We’ll spend the afternoon cruising to Ostend. Tonight is our festive gala evening. We’ll remain in port overnight.
