Description

Description

We’ll visit Catherine Palace, named for Catherine I - the wife of Peter the Great - who ruled Russia for two years after her husband's death. Originally a modest two-story building, in the late 1700s the chief architect of the Imperial Court was instructed to completely redesign the building on a scale to rival Versailles. We’ll have a walk through the gardens and then have lunch in town. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the most famous museum in Russia: The State Hermitage Museum. The museum itself is mostly housed in the Winter Palace, formerly the official residence of the Romanov Tsars. With over three million items in its collection, you’ll be able to get a brief taste of its riches - from Impressionist masterpieces to fascinating Oriental treasures.
