Faro and Olhao

We’ll leave by coach from Vila Real de Santo António for Faro. We’ll begin our visit with the cathedral (outsides only). Originally built as a church in the 13th and 14th centuries, Saint Mary became a cathedral in the 16th century. A few elements still remain from the original church including the bell tower and 2 chapels at the crossing of the transept. After our tour in Faro, we'll leave for Olhão. This seaside city is full of character and contrast. The old fishermen's quarter and its zigzaging alleys which remind us of North Africa where the laundry dries hanging at the door, as well as elegant merchants’ homes with ironwork balconies and former shops inspired by Art Nouveau in the old town are well worth a look. After our tour, we’ll return to the ship in Vila Real de Santo António.
