Leaving for the old city until we reach the Grand Bazaar, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 3,000 shops. It’s organized in quarters selling different types of wares: jewelry, rugs, clothes, mosaics, silverware, etc.
We’ll pass through the labyrinth of small streets connecting to larger courts and the caravanserais that have been transformed into markets where you can browse among the peddlers’ good on carts. Construction of the building, ordered by Mehmed the Conqueror, finished in 1461. It was originally made entirely of wood. After fires destroyed the market several times, it was finally rebuilt in stone.
Following our tour, we’ll return to the boat.
