We’ll leave by coach with our guides for Hofburg Palace. We’ll take the historic Ring Road that encircles Vienna before arriving in the Hofburg Palace area. The grounds of the palace were built up majestically by the Habsburg emperors – from the 13th century "Alte Burg" to the most recent addition in 1900. Today, Hofburg Palace is the official seat of the Austrian President. A visit to the palace is an imperial march through history, art and luxury. The beautiful and celebrated Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) is now a cult figure, and the museum in the Imperial Apartments of the Imperial Palace compares the myth and the facts of her life. Elisabeth’s private life is at the center of the exhibition: her rebellions, obsessions and effusive poetry. We’ll also visit the Imperial Apartments, where Franz Joseph and Elisabeth lived with their children and the entire royal household, giving you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the monarchy. You’ll see the rooms for the officers of the imperial household, the large Audience Hall and the Conference Room, where ministers and the crown council held their meetings. You’ll also discover Franz Joseph’s office, Sissi’s living room and bedroom, numerous salons and an old-fashioned bathroom. We’ll then visit the Imperial Crypt, located beneath the Capuchin Church. One hundred and forty-nine Habsburgs, including 12 emperors and 19 empresses and queens, have their final resting place here. We’ll return to the ship by coach.
