Hiking at the heart of the Wachau Valley
After the guided tour of the Melk Abbey, we’ll leave by coach to the starting point of our hike through the heart of the Wachau Valley (4 hours of hiking, 1312-foot altitude difference). We’ll visit the spectacular ruins of Aggstein Castle (Burgruine Aggstein) Standing more than 984 feet above the river on a steep-sided crag with magnificent views of the valley, the castle was originally built in 1231, and destroyed and rebuilt several times after that before falling into ruin. Surviving sections include parts of its towers, kitchen, dining hall, chapel and mighty walls. After our visit to the castle, we’ll hike through the captivating landscape to impressive Maria Langegg, an important pilgrimage site during the plagues of the 17th and 18th centuries. We'll then return to the ship in Dürnstein by coach. (Almost 8 miles, approx. 4 hours, 1312-foot altitude difference). Leave from Melk – return to Dürnstein.
Hiking in the Little Carpathians
Leave by coach to Devínska Nová Ves for a hike in the Little Carpathians Protected Landscape Area, including the geographically rich Sandberg expanse. The hike will finish at the foot of Devin Castle. We’ll be transferred by coach back to the ship. (Approx. 3 miles, 2.5 hours, altitude difference: 820 feet) . Leaving from Bratisalva.
Urban hike through Buda
We’ll leave from the port for a tour on foot of Buda. Buda and its historic castle district offer medieval streets and houses, museums, caves and Roman ruins. We’ll pass in front of the famous Gellert Baths, and then take the cobblestone streets to the Buda Castle to learn about its tumultuous history reflecting the ups and downs of Hungary's fortunes. We’ll stop off at a covered market on the river and admire the imposing silhouette of the Parliament Building. We’ll return to the ship using public transportation (fare not included) for lunch. (Almost 6 miles, approx. 2.5 hours, 328-foot altitude difference).
Hiking in Pest
From the port, we’ll set out on a hike through Pest to discover its Art Deco and Art Nouveau buildings. We’ll first head to the covered market where you’ll find paprika, culinary delights, and traditional embroidered tablecloths. We’ll pass in front of the Dohany Street Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe and one of the most stunning. It is designed like a basilica and includes some striking Byzantine and Moorish decorations. We’ll visit Saint Stephen’s Basilica and then continue on to Liberty Square. Lined with monumental Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings, the squares symbolized the city's former wealth and importance. We’ll return to the ship using public transportation (fare not included) or on foot.

Hike in Visegrad
Leaving from Esztergom
We’ll leave by coach from Esztergom for Visegrad, and then hike to the castle where you’ll be able to see the magnificent bend in the Danube River down below. We’ll return on foot to the coach which will bring us back to the ship. (3.7 miles, approx. 2 hours, altitude difference: 820 feet).
Urban hike in Vienna
After lunch, we’ll be transferred by coach to Nussdorfer Platz. The Leopoldsburg hiking path will take you through the most beautiful sites in the city. You’ll be able to admire the spectacular fauna and flora and diverse views of the Danube. Leaving from Vienna (3.7 miles, 3 to 4 hours; 1,115-foot altitude difference.
