Description

We’ll leave for a visit to Kizhi, an island at the heart of Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia. The island is famous for its wooden churches, houses and chapel and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll visit the open-air museum that houses the collection of these wooden structures from the past, including old chapels and houses, windmills and granaries, barns and racks for drying crops. The gem of this collection is the 22-domed Church of the Transfiguration of Our Savior, covered with golden leaves and religious portraits. Nearby, the Church of the Intercession of Holy Mary and the bell tower emphasize the harmony and magnificence of this outstanding display. We’ll return on board after our tour.
