Description

Visit of Petershof ,also known as Petrodvorets, the "Russian Versailles", a former imperial palace and one of the most dazzling and largest of the residences of the Court of the Russian Tsars. Its terraced garden features 4 cascades and 144 fountains. The construction of the palace and pavilions, the laying out of the grounds, the installation of the fountains were the work of the greatest architects of the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries. In spite of the simplicity of his personal tastes and the coarseness of his manners, Peter the Great understood perfectly that a true imperial residence surrounded by beautiful gardens with statues and water features was necessary to the prestige of the Russian monarchy. The Tsar's visit to Versailles in 1717 confirmed this conviction. You will visit the palace and then have some time to stroll around the grounds. Return to the boat.
