The Season of Advent and Italian Cuisine

NAPLES - Aeolian Islands - MILAZZO - MESSINA - VIBO MARINA - SALERNO - The Amalfi Coast - Capri - Anacapri - NAPLES

Passengers are welcome to board our ship at the Port of Naples. After comfortably settling into your cabins, we’ll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail. Tonight we’ll enjoy dinner and an evening of activities on board. We’ll remain in port overnight.

The morning will be dedicated to a tour of Pompeii. A reminder of the violent forces that lie deep inside Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii is Europe’s most compelling archaeological site and one of Italy’s most visited tourist attractions.
OR a tour of Herculaneum. Herculaneum's fate runs parallel to Pompeii. Destroyed by an earthquake in 62 AD, the subsequent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD saw it submerged in a sea of mud that essentially fossilized the city. Discover the wealth of archaeological finds, from ancient advertisements and stylish mosaics, to carbonized furniture and inhabitants.
The afternoon will be spent on an optional visit of Naples and the “street of nativity workshops.” In the oldest section of Naples, enjoy a stroll down the Via San Gregorio Armeno, the famous pedestrian street where you can observe skilled craftsmen actually working on nativity figures as they carve and paint them. During the holidays, the atmosphere here becomes enchanted. We’ll then visit the Church of Santa Chiara, a large Franciscan complex that also includes beautiful cloisters and a museum, as well as magnificent examples of 18th-century Neapolitan Christmas nativity scenes. We’ll return on board our ship and begin to cruise towards Milazzo. Tonight’s soirée will have a Neapolitan theme. Our ship will cruise through the night.

Day 3: The Aeolian Islands - MILAZZO (Sicily)

The morning will be spent cruising to the Aeolian Islands.(1) Rising out of the cobalt-blue seas off Sicily's northeastern coast, the UNESCO-protected Aeolian Islands are a little piece of paradise. The chain of islands is named after the demigod of the winds, Aeolus. We’ll arrive in Milazzo in the early afternoon. Join us for an excursion to Tindari. Discover the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna and the site of an ancient Greek town with stunning views of the Sicilian coastline. Free time in the center of Milazzo. Afterwards, we’ll return on board. This evening, dress head-to-toe in white to celebrate Saint Lucy’s Day, the festival of light, for our Sicilian themed soirée. We’ll remain in port overnight.

Day 4: MESSINE (Sicily)

Full-day excursion to Mount Etna and Taormina. Mount Etna is the largest active volcano in Europe. To the ancient Greeks, it was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. The bleak lava wilderness around the summit of Etna is one of the most memorable landscapes you’ll ever see. Afterwards, we’ll travel to Taormina. Idyllically perched on a rock high above the sea, Taormina incarnates the legendary beauty of Sicily. Its Greek-Roman theatre is not to be missed. Afterwards, we’ll return on board. Tonight’s entertainment will be provided by the crew.

DAY 5: VIBO MARINA - Calabria

During the morning, participate in our interactive presentation on Italian cuisine and indulge in Italian delicacies! In the afternoon, join us for an excursion to Calabria. Calabria is at the toe of the boot, the extreme south of Italy - lapped by the splendid crystal-clear Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. We’ll begin our visit with Tropea, a seaside resort with impressive scenery. It has that lovely, timeless, faded feel characteristic of sleepy southern Italian seaside towns. You’ll be able to taste some regional specialties: wine, bruschetta, cheese and dishes prepared with the "Cipolla Rossa di Tropea” red onion. Afterwards, we’ll head to Pizzo. Located on a steep cliff overlooking the Gulf of Santa Eufemia, we’ll enjoy a taste of the seaport's most famous treat: tartufo. Tonight is our festive gala evening. We’ll cruise towards Salerno throughout the night.

DAY 6: SALERNO - The Amalfi Coast (1)

Designated by UNESCO as an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, the Amalfi Coast combines great beauty and gripping drama: coastal mountains plunge into the sea among the deep crags, picturesque towns and lush forests. We’ll set out on an excursion to visit the villages along the Amalfi Coast whose beautiful decorations and illuminations warm the heart and mind. We’ll discover Sorrento, and its extraordinary gardens and landscapes, and taste some local specialties: mozzarella, Italian cold cuts, olive oil and limoncello. Afterwards, we’ll return on board. In Salerno, enjoy some free time strolling through the city and admiring the whimsical and creative holiday lights. Our boat will begin to cruise during the night.

DAY 7: NAPLES - Capri - Anacapri - NAPLES

Full-day excursion to Capri and Anacapri (lunch included).(1) We’ll take an airboat or a ferry boat (depending on departure times) to splendid Capri. On arrival, we’ll head to the village of Anacapri and visit the villa San Michele, built at the turn of the last century by Swedish physician and author Axel Munthe. Anacapri is located in the highest part of the island, and from the villas gardens you’ll have a fantastic view of the city of Capri, the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The area is saturated with the colors, scents and light of the Mediterranean. In the afternoon, enjoy some free time on your own or visit the Gardens of Augustus, offering splendid views of the sea and fantastic photographic vistas. We’ll return to Naples by airboat or a ferry boat (depending on departure times). Tonight, we’ll enjoy traditional Neapolitan songs and music based entertainment. We’ll remain in port overnight.

Enjoy one last buffet breakfast on board before disembarking at 9:00 a.m. End of our services.
