DAY 1: NAPLES
You'll board our ship at 5:00 p.m. After you have settled comfortably into your cabins, we’ll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail. Tonight’s soirée will have a Neapolitan theme.
DAY 2: NAPLES - VIBO MARINA (Sicily)
The morning will be dedicated to a visit of Pompeii. A reminder of the violent forces that lie deep inside Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii is Europe’s most compelling archaeological site and one of Italy’s most visited tourist attractions.
OR a visit to Herculaneum. Herculaneum's fate runs parallel to Pompeii. Destroyed by an earthquake in 62 AD, the subsequent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD saw it submerged in a sea of mud that essentially fossilized the city. Discover the wealth of archaeological finds, from ancient advertisements and stylish mosaics, to carbonized furniture and inhabitants.
The afternoon will be a cruise to Vibo Marina. Take advantage of the afternoon cruise to participate in the onboard activities or to laze about on the sun deck. We’ll arrive in Vibo Marina this evening. Enjoy an evening of traditional Calabrian entertainment, with music from south Italy with our group of onboard entertainers, complete with a sumptuous, regional dinner.
DAY 3: VIBO MARINA - CALABRIA (Italy)
We’ll spend the morning cruising the river. Excursion to Calabria. Calabria is at the toe of the boot, the extreme south of Italy - lapped by the splendid crystal-clear Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Its warm climate, beautiful colors, rocky coasts, local food and the vestiges of its ancient origins make Calabria a unique place to be enjoyed in both winter and summer. We’ll begin our visit with Tropea, a seaside resort with impressive scenery. It has that lovely, timeless, faded feel characteristic of sleepy southern Italian seaside towns. We'll enjoy a tasting of regional products. After our tour, we’ll return to the ship, and continue our cruise to Taormina. Tonight’s entertainment will be provided by the crew. We’ll cruise through the night.
DAY 4: MESSINA (Sicily)
Full-day excursion, including lunch, to Mount Etna and Taormina. We’ll start with Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. To the ancient Greeks, it was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. The bleak lava wilderness around the summit of Etna is one of the most memorable landscapes you’ll ever see. We’ll then continue on to Taormina. Idyllically perched on a rock high above the sea, Taormina incarnates the legendary beauty of Sicily. Its Greek-Roman theater is not to be missed. After our tour, we’ll return to the ship. Tonight’s evening will have a Sicilian theme.
DAY 5: At sea
We’ll spend the day cruising the Mediterranean Sea. Take advantage of this time to participate in the onboard activities or to laze about on the sun deck.
DAY 6: KATAKOLON - OLYMPIA (Greece)
Join us for a visit to Olympia, the sanctuary known for having been the site of the first Olympic Games. Running, wrestling, boxing and chariot racing were all once part of this legendary event. We’ll walk through the impressive ruins of the area where athletes once competed. After our tour, we’ll return on board and continue towards Messina. We’ll spend the afternoon cruising. Enjoy the onboard activities during this time. We’ll enjoy a Greek-themed evening on board.
DAY 7: CORFU
Join us for a tour of the city of Corfu. The name originates from the Byzantime, "city of the peaks", because of the two peaks upon which the ancient citadel stood. The old town is well preserved and nestles between the two Venetian fortresses. We'll have the chance to visit the Achilleiion Palace, built in 1890 for Elizabeth, Empress of Austria. There is a charming museum inside the palace. From the palace gardens, there are breathtaking views of the town of Corfu and the Ionian Sea. We’ll continue our tour with a ride along the Kanoni Peninsula by coach. We’ll catch a glimpse of the Vlacherna Monastery and Mouse Island (Pondikonissi), and visit the old town of Corfu. Full of charming narrow streets, this quarter also houses one of the most famous monuments in Corfu: Saint Spyridon Church. We’ll return on board for lunch. The afternoon will be spent exploring the northern part of the island, where you’ll discover the most beautiful spots and exceptional landscapes in Corfu. Palaiokastritsa is one of the most splendid sites and according to Homer’s poems, Ulysses made a final stop here before returning to Ithaca. The village is hilly and nestles beneath the folds of steep, verdant slopes of olive groves and citrus orchards. On the most northern promontory lies the 13th century monastery of Theotokos. It stands on a steep hillside full of wild trees facing the deep blue sea. There are some magnificent views from both the monastery and the hills above. It also contains a museum where holy and precious relics are displayed. Our tour will continue on to the mountain village of Lakones. We’ll return to our ship in the late afternoon for dinner and an evening of dancing and entertainment. We’ll remain in port overnight.
DAY 8: CORFU
