DAY 1: LYON
Boarding at 3.00pm in Lyon Quai Claude Bernard. Settle comfortably in your cabins while the ship starts sailing southwards. Meet the crew during a welcome cocktail. Dinner and night on board. Sailing at night.
DAY 2: AVIGNON - ARLES
Morning spent cruising, optional excursions proposed:
CLASSIC: guided tour of Avignon, the City of the Popes, Avignon was a prominent city due to its famous bridge across the Rhone (Pont d’Avignon). Visit the ancient citadel Palace of the Popes surrounded by ramparts and perched on a rock over the river.
DISCOVERY: You’ll leave by coach for the Pont du Gard, a true masterpiece of ancient architecture. We’ll hike along the aqueduct trail, a 2-mile walk through the site with numerous viewing points. At the end of our trek, we’ll visit the museum.
Return on board and gala evening while cruising gently on to Arles. Overnight stop.
DAY 3: ARLES - PORT SAINT LOUIS - MARTIGUES(2)
Optional excursions proposed:
CLASSIC: sightseeing tour of the Camargue, a huge plain where the sea and marshland are home to a great number of species of waterfowl.
DISCOVERY: Safari in the Camargue. Far from the tourist traps, discover the Petite and Grande Camargue from the back of a jeep with local guides who will share their enthusiasm for this legendary area. You’ll cross the Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue.
Return on board. Disembark around 5.00pm in Apt. Settle comfortably in your 3*NL hotel
DAY 4 : APT - OCHRE QUARRIES - GORDES
After breakfast leave with your guide to visit Apt.: the St Anne cathedral, the Royal chapel, the Clock Tower. Then, go round a candied fruits factory before enjoying some free time to discover the town. Lunch before setting off towards Roussillon to discover the picturesque ochre quarries. Then on to Gordes, a charming little village where the houses rise in terraces on a cliff facing the Luberon river. Walk round the Abbey of Senanque, a jewel of Cistercian art whose original monastery is unspoiled. Then off to Coustellet to visit the Lavender museum and its collection of stills. Return to the hotel for dinner and a free evening.
DAY 5: SORGUE VALLEY - VAUCLUSE FOUNTAIN - LYON
Breakfast before leaving by coach to visit the Vaucluse Fountain in the Sorgue Valley. It is one of the most powerful resurgences in the world - the mouth of an underground river mixed with rainfall from the Sorgue plain. Visit a paper mill powered by water from the Sorgue. Then on to Isle sur Sorgue and discover the town and the Collegiate of Notre Dame des Anges and the Donadei de Camredon Hotel and the Hospital. Have lunch before returning to Lyon on the motorway. Arrive between 6.00 and 7.00pm. End of our services.
