Cruise
CATANIA
Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6 p.m. After comfortably settling into your cabins, we'll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail. We'll enjoy dinner on board this evening. The rest of the evening is yours to do as you please.
CATANIA (Sicily)
In the morning, join us for a tour of Catania. Located on the banks of the Ionian Sea and dominated by Mount Etna, you'll discover vast squares, wide streets and lava rock buildings in this splendid city. Its historical and artistic heritage is just waiting to be discovered.
This afternoon, join us for an excursion to "The Cyclopean Coast,” a fantastic mix of legends and history. Our first stop will be Aci Trezza, a small fishing village known for the three tall, column-shaped islands right off its coast. In Homer's Odyssey, Cyclops Polyphemus hurled these large boulders at Ulysses' vessels. After a stroll through seaside village, we'll head to Aci Castello. From a panoramic observation point, you'll be able to admire the lava rock castle perched above the sea. We'll then continue on to Acireale, an elegant baroque town at the foot of Mount Etna. You'll discover the historical heart of the town and its lava rock architecture.
OR join us on an excursion to Mount Etna (lunch included)(1). We'll set out to visit one of the most famous volcanos in Europe. Century after century, the eruptions have modified the slopes of the mountain, forming unique sculptures of lava and ice. Our coach will climb the mountain to the Sapienza refuge, at about 6,234 feet high (1,900 m.). From there, we'll continue our ascent by aerial tram and then in a four-wheel drive bus to the "Tower of the Philosopher.” From the ancient and monumental "Valle de Bove” caldera, you'll take in the superb view across the valley to the Mediterranean Sea.
At sea
We'll spend the entire day at sea.
KATAKOLON (Greece)
In the morning, we'll set out on a tour of Olympia, the birthplace and host of the Olympic Games beginning in 776 B.C. Running, wrestling, boxing and chariot racing were all once part of this legendary event. The Altis - the sanctuary to the gods - contains one of the highest concentrations of masterpieces from the ancient Greek world. Enclosed within the area are the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Zeus, the Pelopion, and the altar where the sacrifices were made. The museum presents some of the most beautiful objects and remarkable sculptures found in the ruins.
We'll spend the afternoon cruising. Join us for an evening of dinner and dancing.
ITEA - CORINTH
Join us for an excursion to Delphi (lunch included), a sacred site said to have been founded by Zeus. In ancient Greece, thousands upon thousands of pilgrims flocked here to hear the Oracle give her predictions. Although the Sanctuary of Apollo is arguably one of the most important historical sites in Greece, only the monumental pedestals remain today as silent witnesses to a lost grandeur. We'll visit the museum housing many of the important relics discovered in the area. Our tour will continue at Hosios Loukas, one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art, which has also been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After our day, we'll begin to cruise to Corinth. Join us for an evening of entertainment.
CORINTH - Corinth Canal - PIRAEUS
We'll spend the morning cruising, passing through the Corinth Canal. After a failed effort to build it in the 1st century, the project finally saw the light of day in the 1800s. It is 4 miles long (6.4 km) and 70 feet wide (24.6 m) at its base, making it impassable for most modern ships.
Our afternoon excursion will be a tour of Athens and the Acropolis. We'll explore the Acropolis, an ancient religious center in Athens including the Temple of Athena Nike and the Caryatid Porch of the Erechtheion. Of course, the Parthenon dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron, is not to be missed. After our visit to the Acropolis, enjoy a coach tour of the capital of Greece. Tonight's festivities will have a Greek flair!
SANTORINI
This morning, join us for a tour of Santorini. Santorini's intrigue reaches deep into the past. It is famous for dramatic views, stunning sunsets, white eggplants, and its very own active volcano. The small island cradles a rich variety of landscapes and bright white village architecture. We'll stop at a local winery to have a taste* of the island's famous wine. We'll spend the afternoon cruising. Join us for an evening of entertainment.
RHODES
This morning, join us for a visit to ancient and medieval Rhodes. We'll first visit the oldest part of the city, surrounded by medieval walls with seven gates. Strolling its hauntingly pretty cobbled lanes is an experience not to be missed. The Old City of Rhodes, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, remains one of the most impressive places in Greece. Within the enormous castle "The Palace of the Grandmaster” are relics from the medieval period as well as ancient sculptures and beautiful 1st century floor mosaics brought to Rhodes from the island of Kos. A stroll through the castle will bring you through several thousand years of history. Our tour will continue on the Street of the Knights: Completely restored or preserved beautifully, it is lined by the buildings where holy warriors spent their time in prayer or military practice. Each building is an ‘inn' for each language spoken according to the knights' birthplace: England, France, Germany, Italy, Aragon, Auvergne or Provence. What we see now, though, owes much to Italian restorations during the 1930s. Join us for an evening of dinner and dancing.
LIMASSOL
We'll spend the morning cruising.
This afternoon, join us for a visit to the archaeological site in Paphos. Kato Pafos Archaeological Park includes sites and monuments from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages, with most dating from the Roman period. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. The remains of villas, palaces, theaters, fortresses, and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and historic value. We'll visit the impressive, underground tombs dating back to the 4th century BC and sporting a distinct Egyptian influence. Afterwards, we'll continue on to the coastal town of Yeroskipou and visit a Loukoum (Turkish Delight) factory for a tasting. Tonight is our festive gala evening.
