Departure on foot for the visit of Slavonski Brod. Located on the northern bank of the Sava River, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the heart of Slavonia, the city has a history dating back to Roman times. It is especially known for its 18th-century Baroque fortress, one of the best-preserved monuments in Croatia, as well as its lively old town and large central square lined with cafés.You will see the pedestrian city center, the Franciscan Church, and the Brod Citadel, an imposing Vauban-style fort built in the 18th century to protect the Austro-Hungarian Empire from Ottoman attacks.Within this historic setting, you will visit the contemporary art museum – the Branko Ružić Gallery – which houses an important collection of modern and contemporary art, enriched by donations from the famous Croatian artist and major 20th-century works.Fun fact: Slavonski Brod and its train station are mentioned in Agatha Christie’s novel Murder on the Orient Express as the place where the train breaks down.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Good walking shoes are recommended (paths with cobbles and earth in the fortress).
  • The order of the visits can change.
