INSPIRATION

Three must-see sites along the Nile

The Nile has fascinated travelers for centuries. This month, we take you on a journey to discover three of the most iconic monuments of Upper Egypt, the very sites featured on our "Nile: Land of the Pharaohs" cruise. Among the countless treasures of the land of the pharaohs, these three stand out, each capturing something of the grandeur of this extraordinary civilization.

Our first must-see is the Temple of Karnak, which immediately commands attention upon arriving in Luxor. One of the largest religious complexes ever built, its vasthy postyle hall and avenues of sphinxes stand beneath the open sky, bearing witness to the architectural ambition of the pharaonic builders. Luxor, ancient Thebes, is also considered one of the world's greatest open-air museum cities.

The second highlight is the Temple of Abu Simbel, accessible from Aswan. A Nubian masterpiece commissioned by Ramses II, its façade, guarded by four 20-meter-high colossal statues, remains one of the most striking images of ancient Egypt. Aswan itself charms visitors with its tranquil riverbanks, set between Lake Nasser and Elephantine Island.

Finally, on the west bank of the Nile at Luxor lies one of Egypt's most legendary sites: the Valley of the Kings. This vast necropolis is home to the tombs of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including the tomb of Seti I, one of the best-preserved. It brings this journey through four thousand years of history to a close with a lasting sense of wonder.

BEHIND THE SCENES

The Warehouse: The logistical heart of our ships

Behind every smoothly run cruise is a service as discreet as it is essential: our ship supply warehouse, located on Rue du Havre in Strasbourg.

In a facility roughly the size of a soccer field, Steven Lahcene, Logistics Manager, and Renaud Reichardt, Warehouse Clerk and Delivery Driver, make sure every vessel in the fleet receives everything it needs, exactly when it needs it: wines and beverages, table linens, kitchen supplies, shop merchandise, and more. Originally designed to supply around ten ships, the facility now serves nearly four times as many.

Every order is identified, tracked, and carefully checked before leaving the warehouse. At the start of the season, a single ship may require as many as ten pallets of wine. Throughout the rest of the year, weekly deliveries keep supplies topped up, all coordinated with meticulous attention to detail. “A mistake inquantities or mixing up two ships can have direct consequences,” explains Steven Lahcene.

It may be a behind-the-scenes operation, but it plays a direct role in ensuring our passengers enjoy a seamless experience on board.

The MS Botticelli returns to the Seine

Just a few weeks after the fire that damaged the MS Botticelli while it was docked in Honfleur, the ship has resumed its cruises.

This swift return to service is the result of the remarkable work of our technical teams. In record time, they took on a formidable challenge: repairing the damaged areas, rebuilding and renovating where necessary, and attending to every detail to ensure that the Botticelli could welcome passengers once again. Comparing the images taken after the fire with those from the restoration site and the ship as it looks today, the transformation is remarkable, a true feat achieved in just a few weeks.

A huge thank you to everyone who gave their all to this exceptional project. Their expertise, energy, and dedication were essential to its success.

We would also like to extend our heart felt thanks to the emergency services, the City of Honfleur, the Prefecture, UNASS, the Red Cross, and everyone who assisted on site for their responsiveness, availability, and invaluable support.

The MS Botticelli is now back on the Seine, ready to continue its journey.

EVENT

An unforgettable eclipse aboard La Belle de Cadix

A moment frozen in time, experienced by our passengers in Andalusia: during an evening in Seville, nearly 95% of the Sun was obscured by the Moon.

Wearing eclipse glasses, passengers and crew members gathered on the sun deck to enjoy this rare spectacle together, in a warm and convivial atmosphere. A truly unforgettable memory along the Guadalquivir, perfectly illustrating the extra touch of magic a cruise can offer when the sky puts on a show of its own.

On August 2, 2027, another solar eclipse will cross Andalusia, with nearly 97% of the Sun obscured as seen from Seville. A new edition of this cruise will offer the opportunity to admire this unique celestial spectacle from a carefully selected location, chosen for the beauty of its surroundings and its spectacular views, accompanied by a passionate guide.

DESTINATION OF THE MONTH

Gironde: A destination with unspoiled charm

Following the wildfires that affected parts of the Gironde this summer, our thoughts are first and foremost with the local communities and all those who worked tirelessly to protect the region.

While the fires inevitably raised questions among travelers, the areas visited on our cruises were not affected, and our itineraries continue to operate as planned. More importantly, as the region looks ahead to the end of the season, we hope to help keep the Gironde firmly on travelers' radars.

From Bordeaux and its UNESCO-listed heritage to the vineyards of the Médoc and Saint-Émilion, and from the peaceful banks of the Garonne and Dordogne to the landscapes of the Gironde estuary, the region continues to offer an exceptional combination of heritage, gastronomy, nature, and the French art of living.

Visiting the Gironde is also a wonderful way to support a destination and the local communities that bring it to life.

To discover the region from a different perspective, our ambassador recently travelled through the area and shares her experience in a video, journeying from one stop to the next. Join her as she explores the landscapes, iconic sites, and many of the places that make the Gironde so special.

Discover Andalusia beyond the summer season

There's something special about discovering Seville and Cádiz when the pace is slower, the streets are quieter and the Andalusian sun is still shining. In Cruise and Travel Lifestyles, Andrew Maclear shares his experience aboard La Belle de Cadix, exploring Seville, Cádiz, the Osborne cellars and the charming whitewashed villages of Andalusia in February, all while enjoying the relaxed rhythm of a river cruise.
