5 Reasons Why River Cruise Views are the Best

In case I haven’t made it obvious enough, river cruising offers a lot of perks.

I’ve spoken to you already about the delicious food, the excursions, the social experience, and all that…

However, I think I owe you all an apology. I realized today that I’ve completely neglected one of the most obvious perks that river cruising has to offer: the beautiful views you get while cruising! Because most of my time on board involves me blogging away on my laptop. I find myself often missing some of the unbelievable beauty that we pass so frequently on these rivers.

Today was different though. Today, I was determined to not miss out. Why? Well, this afternoon brought the MS Lafayette through a section of the Rhine Valley known simply as the “Romantic Rhine”, a 65 km stretch of the river characterized by its picturesque cliffs, vineyards and beautiful hill top castles. During last evening’s dinner announcements, the mere mention of the “Romantic Rhine” earned countless oohs and ahhs from my fellow passengers, and so I knew: this was going to be good.

This is why, immediately after lunch, I parked myself on the sun deck, camera in hand, ready to indulge in some Rhine River romance. Alongside my fellow passengers, I stood in complete awe of the dozens of castles, cute towns and twisting vineyards that seemed, at times, only metres away from the boat. After this experience, I’m kicking myself a little bit for taking this aspect of cruising for granted.

So, as a reminder to myself and all of you, here are 5 reasons why river cruise views are the absolute best:

1. You can watch the world go by from the comfort of your own bed.

As I type this, I am snuggled up in my blanket, watching beautiful green vineyards glide by my cabin window. Admiring ever-changing landscapes from the river is already a treat in itself, but doing it without even leaving bed? That, my friends, is absolute bliss.

2. There are plenty of options for places to sit and enjoy.

River cruises really are designed with views in mind! Besides your own cabin, several spaces on board allow you to enjoy panoramic views of the river and its surroundings. Soak in some sunshine from the top deck, sprawl out on a sofa in the lounge bar, or my personal favourite, enjoy a delicious three-course meal in the Dining Room while the world passes you by.

3. Sunrises and sunsets from the water are absolutely stunning.

I can still remember one of my first mornings cruising along the Seine… I was woken up by a golden sunrise peeking through my curtains, and I swear, it was the best wake up call I’ve ever had. Perhaps I have just been very lucky, but in this past month of cruising, I’ve witnessed some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets I have ever seen in my life.

4. You gain access to unparalleled views of landmarks and big events.

There are few moments in my life as magical as when I cruised past a sparkling Eiffel Tower, and got to watch it light up at night from the side deck of the MS France. When you’re on a river cruise, you get to see big landmarks from a perspective that most travelers don’t have access to, which is very special.

From time to time, you’ll even get lucky with big events, like I did during the Bordeaux River Festival. We happened to be in town for the city’s annual fireworks display, which meant I had access to front-row, unobscured views of the show… a fact that earned many jealous looks from passerbyers crowded along the Garonne.

5. Last but not least, you’re able to enjoy all of this with a drink in your hand.

Have I mentioned that CroisiEurope’s cruises are all inclusive, which means access to free drinks all the time? Whether you want a fruity cocktail, refreshing soda or soothing cup of tea, the bar staff have you covered. Just sit back, take a sip, and enjoy the view!

So, needless to say, with two months left on this Photo Tour, I am very determined to make the most of my cruise views. I have some gorgeous destinations like the Douro and the Adriatic Sea coming up soon, so you better be ready for tons of photos!

Update you all soon,
