Sailing on the Mekong River with CroisiEurope

In 2017, a high-class colonial-style ship known as the RV Indochine II will join CroisiEurope’s four vessels on the Mekong River in 2017. With its spacious private balconies and admirable design, the ship’s 60 passengers throughout its 30 cabins will vacation in extravagance. Passengers can also fully relax onboard, thanks to the cruise ship's exceptional massage facilities and immaculate swimming pool. As the ship cruises the Mekong in both directions, it will dock in exceptional regions throughout Cambodia and Vietnam —including the following:

Angkor

Known as one of Southeast Asia’s most important archaeological sites, Angkor is a must-see treasure along the Mekong exemplifying cultural, religious and symbolic values. Angkor Archaeological Park bears witness to the region’s high architectural and artistic significance, with its magnificent monuments and striking remains of the Khmer Empire. The Bayon Temple is one of the most popular and impressive sites in the area, known for its massive stone faces and surrounded by walls containing more than 11,000 carved figures. As you explore, you will notice several different communication routes, ancient urban plans and hydraulic structures (including basins, dykes, reservoirs, canals) throughout Angkor, testifying to its novel civilization and high level of social order.

Kampong Chhnang

Located in the heart of Cambodia, the town of Kampong Chhnang is one of the largest fishing ports on the Tonlé Sap. The region is best known for creating traditional clay pottery, a top source of revenue for the country and a beloved activity among residents. Quite fittingly, the region's very name means “the port of pottery” in Khmer. When you cruise with CroisiEurope, you will get the unique opportunity to taste palm sugar from the Thnot sugar palm (a national symbol) before sailing around Kampong Chhang on small local boats. As you float along the water, the authentic atmosphere and surrounding sights will fascinate you—especially the two floating villages, and a hamlet with its distinctive pottery.

Phnom Penh

Founded in 1434, the exotic and influential city of Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia. Although the city was immensely impacted by war and revolution, it fortunately retains much of its colonial charm and architectural significance. For those eager to experience the city’s brutal war history, the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is surely the place to see. This museum was once a S-21 prison where convicts were interrogated, tortured and executed. Visitors can now tour the vacant, spine-chilling facilities as well as observe almost 6,000 portraits of the prison’s unfortunate visitors. The city also offers attractions for those who would rather relish in Phnom Penh’s glory and majesty. Phnom Penh’s National Museum is home to the world’s finest collection of Khmer sculpture, and the city’s striking Royal Palace is one of the finest examples of Cambodian architecture in classical Khmer style.

Ho Chi Minh City

Formerly known as Saigon and built by the French in 1850, Ho Chi Minh City is the principal port of Vietnam. Unike most cruise ships, the RV Indochine II will moor in center of Ho Chi Minh City - allowing its passengers to enjoy a more thorough and meaningful experience. From the spectacular Reunification Palace to the renowned Notre Dame Cathedral, the region is filled with stunning sights. For those who are eager to explore the evolution of Ho Chi Minh City’s extraordinary culture over the years, The National History Museum offers a range of artifacts from Vietnam’s extensive history. Another popular attraction is the Jade Emperor Pagoda—one of the most fascinating temples in Ho Chi Minh City filled with marvelous statues, delicate woodcarvings, and elaborate tile work.

Sailing on the Mekong River is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. As you explore Cambodia and Vietnam, the rich biodiversity and prominent culture within these countries will leave an everlasting impression on you. Especially when the new and renowned RV Indochine II CroisiEurope cruise ship is the one taking you there, you will enjoy every minute of this unforgettable journey.
